After Sapporo, we managed to get on a train to Hakodate. The ride was about 3 hours. Quite far than what I first expected… But the scenary was really nice.
One of the thing you can not miss out is the morning market. It opens from around 5:00am until afternoon. It is located right next to the JR Hakodate station. The seafood sold here are just fresh stuff. The food you get here are really cheap compared to the price offered in Tokyo.
Main foods are crabs, sea urchin, salmon egg, salmon, squid, dried seafood, etc. Hakodate being one of the main source for Japan’s seafood, you can’t miss this place for sure.
Another great idea and great places to go eat are where the locals go eat and shop sea food. Try asking the locals and see where they go.
